Maths Craft 22/11/18
Today in Maths craft we are doing meander. Meander is a repeated pattern or motif, usually constructed from a continuous line. Meanders can be drawn be drawn in a very systematic way. An infinite strip with a repeating pattern is called a frieze pattern. The term "frieze" is from architecture, where frieze refers to a decorative carving or pattern that runs horizontally. The seven frieze patterns are Hop, Step, Slide, Spinning Hop, Spinning Slide, Jump, Spinning jump.

Passion project- MATHS CRAFT
12/11/18, Monday
Today we did maths craft for our passion project. We went into groups of four and the other half of my group did Mobius strip. We learned how to make Menger sponge. We also learned what fractal means. Fractal means patterns that keep repeating or having the same pattern and it keeps getting smaller and smaller.

9Tech Mu torere
19/10/18, October
Mū tōrere is played on papa takaro, or game boards, or can be inscribed into clay or sand. The board is in the form of an eight-pointed star with endpoints, called kewai, connected to the centre point, or pūtahi. The lines connecting the kewai to the pūtahi are oriented at 45 degrees.
Each player controls four counters, or perepere, which are initially placed on the board at the kewai. At the beginning of the game, the pūtahi is empty.
Players move one of their counters per turn to an empty point. Players can move only to an adjacent kewai and can move to the pūtahi only when the moved counter is adjacent to an opponent's counter. The player who blocks all the opponent's counters from moving is the winner.

9Sp music reflection
21/08/18, Friday
- I learned about making a jingle, making beats for the jingle. We took the lyrics and changed it a little bit to fit the beat of the song more after that we sang it all over again until we perfect all of the lyrics and beats.
- The challenges we faced are the beats of the music being too late and the song being too slow for teh words we overcome the challenge by working together and making the beat faster so teh video can last only 30 seconds, when we can't speed up the beat anymore we decided to just edit the song and make it faster.
- What we will do differently next time is work faster and work out the songs faster, because we can't make a beat with only half of the lyrics and the people who were making the lyrics are working too slow so maybe we can work with them and help them out more.
- The highlight of the process for me is shooting the videos for the ad because it's so fun and we can go around places and we can have some fun while shooting the videos. It's really fun and we can really bring out our ideas while doing the shooting.
- I was hoping we will learn about instruments and how to read the music sheets in music next because it will be really interesting and we can learn more about instruments and it will be really great if I can learn an instrument. I also want to learn the music sheets because I can play the instrument without having trouble on finding tutorials.

Growing Seeds
17/09/18, Monday
Aim: To look at the different growing conditions and how these affect the growth of seeds.
Method:
We worked in groups of 3-4 students.
Potting mix was put into the cups.
The cups were plated with Beans seeds.
Each cup had a different growing condition:
Cup 1- Normal
Cup 2- Red Cellophane
Cup 3 - Over watered
Cup 4 - Blue Cellophane
Cup 5- Clear Cellophane
The plant grew in their cups for 10 days before they were measured.
Findings:

Normal | 76 mm |
Clear cellophane | 59 mm |
Red cellophane | 80 mm |
Overwater | 38 mm |
Blue Cellophane | 24 mm |
The normal seedling was planted in the normal potting mix and grew to a height of 76 mm.
The green cellophane seedling was planted in the normal potting mix, covered in green cellophane and watered. It grew to a height of 24 mm. The red cellophane seedling was planted in the normal potting mix to a height of 80 mm. The overwatered seedling was planted in the normal potting mix, the water could not drain out the bottom of the pot and it grew to a height of 38 mm.
Conclusion:
From the pictures and evidence, we can conclude that:
The seedling height was:
1.76 mm
2.80 mm
3.38 mm
4.24 mm
The best growing conditions were:
1.80 mm
2.76 mm
3.59 mm

9HEE learning reflection
13/09/18, Thursday
Whare Tapa Wha is about the four cornerstones of well being and it helps us cope with depression and live a happy life with no complaints. This is useful to understand because it helps us with what to cope with and it also helps us with what to take care of using the four walls.
I participated okay. I contributed by doing the taha whanau definition and writing examples for it. Next time I will participate more and help with building the house.
It was challenging when I need to find examples for the social well being and trying to find definitions for it. I coped with the challenge by working hard to find it and using my own examples of what social well being is. I worked well with others because I like working with others and we respect each other opinions. Next time I will say my opinion more and give more ideas to my group.

English traditional tales
05/09/18, Wednesday
In English, we made things like presentations, static images, Quizzes. We made this to tell the stories we picked using a matrix.
One of the stories I picked is about Alibaba and the forty-thieves I made a Quiz on Kahoot using the story of Alibaba, I made them based on the happenings of the story. I got the Alibaba and the forty-thieves from the Arabian Nights, Arabian Nights is about a girl who constantly tells stories every night she continues the pattern for 1001. Arabian Nights are also called 1001 nights since the girl tells stories for 1001 nights.
The second one I made is about The boy who cried wolf I made a static image of it and I wrote all the things I used such as the colours included and what the story is about. The boy who cried wolf is a fable and it's written by Aesop and fables are mostly about animals that can act and talk like a human. The boy who cried wolf is about a shepherd boy who lies by shouting wolf and the people rushing towards him to help him get the wolf away but one day a real wolf came and the shepherd shouted again but no one came, an old man went to him and said that "no one will believe a liar even if he's telling the truth".

LO: Communicate what you have learnt and how you will apply what you know to the year 9 Business Kete...
What did you learn about?
I learnt about problem-solving strategies, one of them is Joint problem-solving (JPS)- "Taking small steps together" and we also learned positive thoughts, thought challengers and negative thoughts when you have negative thoughts you need to think of thought challengers and that will give you positive thoughts.
When discussing "Thought Challenges" what did you notice about yourself?
When I think I often react Positively or Negatively
However, I can use thought challengers, for example when I have a problem like when someone is ignoring me or is talking bad about me I can always think about positive thoughts where maybe they have a problem and they just can't talk about it to others
What solutions can you try when you face a challenge during the Business & Enterprise kete? Give an example
During the business and enterprise kete, I will be able to overcome challenges by using resilience for example when no one is buying in our stall we can always try new ideas and not give up until we get buyers.
Can you redesign the coping

Wood tech blog
28/08/18, Tuesday
First, we were given a piece of paper with drawings of three measurements of wood with one filled out, we needed to complete the measurements of the two remaining rectangles and we have to figure out the planning of the puzzle. We were helped by our teacher on how to measure the parts and how we can figure out how to do it. After doing the paperwork we need to do it on wood by following the same steps given by the teacher on the paper.
After finishing the paperwork and transferring the measurements we need to cut two of the wood using the radio saw and follow the guidance of our measurements.
We also need to drill holes on the other one with the negative sign on it and after drilling it we need to fix the drilling using a chisel and then we need to check if one of the parts will fit through the hole created, we need to straighten the curved parts so we use a file to fix the curve parts where we can't use the chisel. Then we need to check if all the parts will fit.

Transport in plants
08/23/18, Thursday
Aim: To observe xylem tissue and prove that they transport water up the plant.
Equipment: One stick of celery with the leaves still attached, a retort stand, boss head and clamp, a Petri dish, water, food colouring, a knife a scalpel.
Method:
1. Make a cut across the base of the celery stalk to expose a new section of the stem.
2. Fill the petri dish with water and add a few drops of food colouring.
3. Place the celery stalk in the petri dish and gently it in place using the retort stand, boss head and clamp.
4. Leave the stalk undisturbed for 24 hours.
5. Remove the stalk from the clamp and petri dish. Cut the stem about 1/3 of the way up the stem.

Refraction through lenses
Aim: To investigate how different types of lenses refract light.
Method:
1. Set up a ray box, triple slit-ray slide and power supply.
2. Place the convex lens in the space. Place the ray box at the top of the page and shine three rays of light at the lens. Make sure the central light ray hits the lens at 90 degrees.
4. Repeat using the concave lenses.
Conclusion:
When light passes throughthis type of lens, the rays all move away (diverge) from each other. One use of these lenses is in security peepholes in a door so that a person inside a room cna see who is at the door without having to open it.
The lenses described in the paragraph above is a concave.

Aim: To investigate how light is affected by changing the substance it is travelling through.
Method: Collect the equipment from your teacher, and set them up to produce a single beam of light.
Aim: To investigate how light is affected by changing the substance it is travelling through.
Method: Collect the equipment from your teacher, and set them up to produce a single beam of light.
Findings:
When light travelling through air and passes into a glass block it slows down and bends inwards, towards normal. When light travelling through a glass block exits that block and enters the air, it speeds up and bends outwards, away from normal.

How to make a catchy jingle
1. Understand your product - You have to know what you sell, it's history, brand evolution, its uniqueness and how it stands out. Understand what the company has to offer, build around something unique or special about the product or service.
2. Keep it simple - You need to keep the song simple. The tune and lyrics should be simple so the people can remember it easily and choose words that are easy to understand.
3. Incorporate the brand's name - Make clever use of the product's name, where possible, If the product's name is too long, use words that will remind people of the brand.
4. Make it easy to sing - Use repetition of words. Use rhyme. This makes it easier for people to hum the jingle. The words should be such that it's easy to recollect and recite the jingle. Also, the tune should be easy to recall. Great if it's so impactive that people find it difficult to get it out of their heads.
5. Use figures of speech - Experiment with hyperbole (to exaggerate your idea to a small extent) and puns (to add a fun element). Use repetition to create an impact. Use similes for comparison. Try to make it different.
6. Consider the competitors - Find the product's competitors, study their advertising strategies, look at the jingles or slogans they use. Ensure that your jingle does not sound similar to theirs.
7. You should be able to write well to come up with good words that can go together, be given a tune to, and best describe the product/service that the jingle is about.
8. Use words that will make an impact on the consumers and tell them about the product or service and what makes it different from the others in competition. End the jingle on a positive note.
9. Strike a balance between being too creative and too simplistic.
10. See that your jingle doesn't confuse the buyer, or it might result in an increase in the sales of your competitors' products. You don't want that.

1. Watties Tomato sauce advert - 10/10, I gave it a 10 because it fits the ad well and they use repetitive words so the words will get stuck on their mind.
2. Coca-Cola 1971 Hilltop - 10/10, because they use their words cleverly and they make it as cheerful as possible.
3. McDonald's advert - 9/10, maybe they can have more lyrics apart from that it's good.
4. Tip top fruju 1993 advert - 10/10, it's enjoyable and they make it clear what they were selling and the tune is good too.

1. What did you find most challenging about the print design process?
Drawing thumbnail sketches, because I find it difficult to think about what to draw and what to mix together. I also think it's because I don't draw that much and I find it difficult to draw.
2. What did you find most challenging about the painting composition process?
Mixing colour or mixing lighter and darker tones, because I'm really bad at mixing colours. Mixing lighter an darker tones is hard for me since I bad at colours and mixing them is harder.
3. What mistake did you make that taught you something?
I accidentally mixed colours that aren't supposed to be mixed so I learned my lesson that I should ask the teacher first before doing anything.
4. What was most successful about your work?
The cutting of the lino. I like the cutting of my lino since I thought about it hard and I did it with my own decision.
5. What could you do to improve your work?
I could work harder and concentrate more on my work. I can also learn hard and put more effort on my work to improve it.

Science Hydroelectric
Aratiatia-

Near Taupo
Near Taupo
Why is it useful?
- Fuel is not burned so there is minimal pollution.
- Water to run the power plant is provided free by nature.
- It's renewable - rainfall renews the water in the reservoir, so the fuel is almost always there.
Disadvantages:
-Disrupts aquatic ecosystems-Hydropower plants are typically constructed across rivers, and this can interfere with aquatic life and result in their huge scale devastation. There is a huge probability that the fish or other river animals may find a way into the penstock and eventually into the turbines where they will be exterminated. Construction of dams in specific places can interfere with the mating patterns, seasons and breeding areas of the water animals.
-Construction needs a large area- To be able to construct a dam, install power production units, plus transformers, and tether them to the main grid requires a large piece of land. This may call for clearing of large chunks of forest to provide space for building the dam. Clearing of forest greatly impacts the natural ecosystems.

English static Image
Commentary
My static image portrays the idea that
“You can’t keep secrets from God.” you can keep secrets from everybody
but you can’t keep secrets from God since God sees everything and anything.
“You can’t keep secrets from God.” you can keep secrets from everybody
but you can’t keep secrets from God since God sees everything and anything.
I have shown this by
drawing a girl with covered eyes and mouth since she can’t keep secrets from
God and the hands that are covering her mouth and eyes represents god seeing through her and he knows what she ’s doing.

The visual elements I have used include
a girl with covered eyes and mouth with an eye on the hand covering her face.
a girl with covered eyes and mouth with an eye on the hand covering her face.
I have used the colour (s) Red, Black, and white. as they represent
Anger and something evil or depressing. Red because it represents how Martha feels and black because the story is depressing and scary.
I chose white for the background because it represents the pureness of Martha.

The quotation (s) I have chosen is relevant because
The quote is “You can’t keep secrets from God.” I draw a girl with covered eyes and mouth the hands that covering her face represents god it means that God can hear and see everything she does and
he can also see through her. The cross on the left arm represents that she can't keep secrets.

Do you like socialism?
Yes, Because other jobs are harder than the others. So people who have harder jobs should be paid more and people who don't have a hard job should be paid less but will receive a fair amount of money. It allows the government to have more money so they can improve the country. Workers are no longer exploited since they own the means of production.

English Readtheory
25/05/18
On readtheory, my grades went up to grade 10 but I didn't focus today so my grades went down to grade 8. To improve I need to focus more and read it more carefully next time so I don't get confused on what I'm going to answer and what the answer is. I currently have 1052 KP (Knowledge Points), I did 33 quizzes these past few days and I'm hoping to get my grades up.

Today in English I did readtheory and I read about a girl getting new shoes and answering some questions about the story. I made some progress while answering the questions. She broke her shoes while riding her scooter, she had a hard time choosing her new shoes but eventually, she found what she likes the most.

I am curious about why north and south Korea split. I found out that it began with Russia and Japan fighting for the control of the country in 1904, Japan used its victory to annexe Korea in 1910, having already installed a puppet leader. Emperor Sunjong was the last 'united' Korean leader and the last emperor in a dynasty stretching back 500 years. When the Japanese empire was dismantled at the end of World War Two, Korea fell victim to the Cold War. It was divided into two spheres of influence along the 38th parallel. The Americans controlled south of the line - the Russians installed a communist regime in the north, later ceding influence to China.

Today in English for sustained silent reading. I chose to read Walking the Ruins. Leona is hiking in the rain, on a school excursion. She would definitely prefer to be somewhere else. Suddenly, nausea takes hold of her. Then everything turns dark, and a clapping noise tears her world apart. They awake in the future. In an abandoned land of deserted, overgrown ruins, they have to fight for their lives. On her way through the wilderness, Leona discovers the bitter taste of pain, loneliness, and defeat. And when she finally finds other survivors, they are not what she expected. The author's purpose is to entertain the readers. The target audience is young teens.

At first the purple stuff stays in the middle and the purple stuff in the hot water spreads quicker than the purple stuff in the cold water. after a few minutes they started spreading but the hot water is making the purple stuff spread quicker and the cold water is slow at spreading the purple stuff. The cold water prevents the particles of the purple stuff to spread quickly inside the dish.
