English HUNGER GAMES Notes

Settings: 
-Forest, very quiet, animals, a dark undertone of light, comparable to the forest at district 12.
           -Cornucopia, first shown when the participants were at the pedestals. A place where all the
things need are.
-District 12, broken down houses, poor living.
-Capitol, first shown when Katniss and Peeta were arriving at,
colourful clothes and fancy clothes,
buildings are a futuristic and clean environment. We see a lot of affluence in the city.
-Penthouse, cleaner and has a lot of modern stuff, has electricity.
-The training ground has a lot of weapons, dark colours, dark lighting.
-The control room, lots of lights room, lots of white and blue, futuristic gadgets.

Themes:
-Survival
-Battle Royale
-Dystopian

Props:
-Weapons,
-Luxurious food at the train.
-Poor food in district 12.
-Alcohol is associated with Haymitch.

Costumes:
-Rich people wear fancy clothes and bright clothes when Effie Trinket was at the reaping.
-Poor people wear wore down clothes and plain clothes.
-Effie Trinket constantly changes costumes and wigs, bright and colourful.

Scripts:

Symbols: 
-Mockingjay, first shown when she was at the market with the lady, symbolises hope and resistance. 
-Three finger salute, first shown at the reaping, symbolises, solidarity and later on rebellion.
-Primrose tucking in her shirt to show her growing up and being independent.
-The girl on fire, first shown at the parade the symbol of Katniss.
-White rose, the symbol of President Snow.

Lighting:
-Spotlights while the parade was going on to show the characters.
-Dark lighting, at the training grounds, lights are mostly at the targets.
-The forest has a dark undertone to it.

Music: 
-Intense music, during the parade, to show
-Sombre music for when the text appeared at the beginning to show the seriousness.
-No music, the only sounds heard are nature and the conversation of Katniss and primrose,
in the beginning, music isn't included since it doesn't fit the atmosphere.
-At the training grounds when Peeta threw the weights, music is used like something is
about to happen.
-Calm music, while rue died to create an atmosphere that is sad and calm.
-Music is sometimes used to set the atmosphere instead of using facial expressions.


Camera shots and Angles:
-Close up shots, Whilst soothing primrose. To show the facial expressions of a character to
tell the story.
-Bird's eye view, While trying to show all the children at the reaping.
-Over the shoulder shot, while the first interview was going on. To make us feel that we
are included.
-Point of view, while attempting to run 
-Establishing shot, when the parade starts. While showing the participants.
-Extreme long shot- when Caesar Flickerman was speaking at the stage to show the whole
crowd.
-Long shot- when the participants are inside the ship. To show what's in the scene.
-Medium shot- While Katniss was shooting the bow.
-Low angle- The opening scene while Katniss was looking up at Cato at the end while holding
Peeta. To show that he is superior and are stronger than Katniss.
-High angle, when Katniss was introducing herself, to show that Katniss is weak and vulnerable
-Shaky camera, While fighting, to show a realistic view.
-Extreme close-up- While Katniss was shooting the bow at the apples. To show details that are not that noticeable.
-Wide angle shot, to show what's going on at the reaping.
-Dutch tilt, while Katniss was at the stage, to show something is not right.
-Tracking shot, while Peeta and Katniss were running away from the cornucopia.
-Blurred background, to draw attention to the person where the camera focuses.


-Flashbacks help us establish the relationship of certain characters or receive new certain information.
