ESOL Info Reports Huskies

14/06/19, Friday

Huskies are very interesting. They are a breed of dog who likes the cold and although they look
like wolves, they are no more closely related to wolves than bulldogs and other dogs.

The average height of a husky ranges from 21 to 23 inches. Though you commonly see a Siberian
Husky with a black coat, their coats come in different colours like pure white, copper, red and agouti.
They have thick coats to deal with the cold weather that are actually two layers of dense fur; the top
layer contains thick, rough hair and the bottom hair includes softer, thinner hair.

They have beautiful eyes and the colour of their eyes can range from brown to blue and can even be
one eye with blue and another with brown (parti-eye). Their eyes are typically almond shaped.
Their face holds an expression that is keen but also looks friendly and their ears are furry and are in
a triangular shape.

They are known to be highly intelligent and they have unique behaviours.
They need to be mentally stimulated just as much as they need exercise and with the right amount of
training they can learn many things. They also display a playful behaviour as they are light and fast
but they need plenty of exercises to be happy and entertained.
Though they are stubborn, they do have a gentle nature so they love to cuddle
and to play with their owners. They do not need much food, which makes them a low maintenance
dog. They are friendly and gentle but they are also sharp and sociable so a husky does not display
the qualities of a guard dog and is not overly suspicious of strangers and other dogs.

The Siberian Husky was originally bred in Siberia. They are originally bred to survive
the freezing weather of Siberia. They are well adapted to harsh climates.
Huskies were brought to Alaska in the early 1900s because of their endurance
and their enjoyment of hard work, They are bred to be able to endure long work days.
Over time huskies became more popular and they became well adapted to warm climates
too but owners must beware because of their thick coats, they tend to overheat.

What we've learnt from this are huskies needs plenty of attention to be able to be taken care of since
they need plenty of attention and they are needy, owners can't always take care of them. We learned
about their appearance, behaviour and habitat.
