UNWIND Legality vs Morality

30/04/19, Tuesday

               LEGALITY  VS MORALITY

Things that are legal aren't always morally correct. It's important that as citizens,
we constantly question laws that are passed, and why they're passed.
It's also important to think about legal loopholes that allow people to behave in a
legally correct manner, but potentially ethically wrong.
One of the central ideas in Unwind is the question of legality vs. ethics. Here, teens are dismembered while conscious, in order for their body parts to be used in saving someone else's life. This is legal and encouraged. However, we have to ask - is it ethically correct? Is it morally right to do this?

The Moral Side Of Murder:
Justice: What's The Right Thing To Do? Episode 01 "THE MORAL SIDE OF MURDER"

Task: Write a paragraph that put forwards your ideas in response to this - make sure you state what the consequences of each decision would be. Like the heckler in the theatre, see if you can come up with an alternative option.

The choice to save five people over one person is common. It's common to say that you would rather save five people since you can save more lives than lose more lives. Some people choose to save one person maybe because that person is important to them. If you can choose to save five people who you don't know or choose to save one person who is important to you like a family a friend.

For example, think of yourself as a doctor you have a choice to save one person or five people but in order to save the five people you need to provide healthy organs for them to be able to survive and a person who is sick but does have healthy organs can provide them, would you take them?.

Even though saving five people can have its advantages it can also have its consequences saving five people doesn't always work out it can cause you more trouble. Saving one person isn't the first option for certain people but there are still consequences you need to accept like if that person is your family or friend then you'll have more trouble.

My opinion is I would choose neither since I don't want to sacrifice anyone to save somebody else's life. I can only sacrifice someone's life if they are willing to do it.

UNWIND PART SEVEN - CONSCIOUSNESS PREDICTIONS

05/04/19, Friday

PREDICTION: there are three more books after this. What do you think might happen to Risa, Connor and Lev?
Any other characters you would like to make a prediction for?

RELEASE DATE OF THE BOOKS:
UNWIND: 2007
UNSTRUNG:2012
UNWHOLLY: 2012
UNSOULED: 2013
UNDIVIDED:2014
UNBOUND: 2015

I think Risa, Connor and Lev would be facing more troubles maybe the government would retaliate against them and maybe would attack the graveyard. The society would be split into two with the some people going against unwinding and people who is supporting unwinding. I think Connor would try to help many unwinds escape and he will learn to start fighting and managing the graveyard. Since Risa learned medical I think she would help with the injured unwinds. As for Lev I think he would live with his Brother and later maybe help Connor and Risa in the graveyard.

PART SEVEN - CONSCIOUSNESS

05/04/19, Friday

"A human being is part of a whole, called by us the Universe, a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings, as something separated from the rest - a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness. This delusion is a kind of prison for us…Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circles of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole of nature in its beauty."
-Albert Einstein

"Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe."

- Albert Einstein

  1. How is it that Connor was not unwound? p318 Connor wasn't unwound because when they searched the building they found an ID of a nineteen-year-old security guard named Robert Mullard, therefore, Connor receiving a new identity.
  2. Whose arm does he now have? P319 Connor has Roland's arm now based on the tiger shark tattoo Roland owns.
  3. On p321 Risa tells Connor how she won't be unwound. Do you think her decision to not accept the spine of an Unwind was purely ethical or was she also playing the system in order to stay alive? I think she was doing both she didn't want the spine because it's ethical but she was also playing the system since she's injured they can't use her damaged body parts.
  4. Since the explosions at Happy Jack, what have people been doing? What has Cy-Fi's role been in this? P325 People started talking more about unwinding. Cy-Fi went to the court and testified. There have been rumours that the legal age of adulthood would be lowered to instead of 18 it would be 17.
  5. Lev's parents disown him. Who is trying to become his guardian? P328. His Brother Marcus would his new guardian, Marcus is the only one who defended him and Marcus got disowned by his parents too.
  6. Why has Pastor Dan resigned? P329 Because he doesn't believe in the god that kills children and he decided to leave the church.
  7. P331-332 explain what has happened to Harlan Dunfee. What do you think about the Admiral and his wife's plan? Was it what you expected?  Harlan Dunfee's parents signed him for unwinding and they instantly regretted signing the papers. The story of Harlan was not true and his parents just wanted him back without causing trouble and not being violent.
  8. Who takes over the graveyard? P331 Connor and with the help of his other friends took over the graveyard.

Link: https://borgenproject.org/worst-countries-for-human-trafficking/

There are millions of people who are being sold because of human trafficking. This affects there life and human rights. The countries that have the worst human trafficking includes Belarus, China and North Korea. People sell humans mainly because they need money. The people doing human trafficking do this because they live in poverty. The seller sometimes kidnaps the victim while they’re alone or when the victim is weak. They are often sold to do prostitution, the seller trades the victim to a customer. The human rights that are taken away from them are the right to marriage and family because they are forced to work for the person, that they have no time for they're own family. The right to social security they can’t afford their own house and they’re own food since they are always working and no slavery.

PART SIX - UNWOUND

04/02/19, Tuesday

For your ease of mind, there are a variety of harvest camps to choose from.
Each facility is privately owned, state licensed, and federally funded by your tax dollars. Regardless of the site you choose, you can feel confident that your Unwind will receive the finest possible care from our board-certified staff as they make their transition to a divided state.
-From The Parents' Unwinding Handbook

CONNECTIONS:
While at Harvest Camp, cameras film what the unwinds do at all times. This is an Orwellian concept and happens in 1984. It is also increasingly popular in our world to have 24hr CCTV coverage of most places.
Rehabilitation Centres and Prisons: The group counselling, daily physical activities and strict diet are similar to many rehab centres for people recovering from substance abuse, or a mental health issue. They are also quite similar to many modern prisons.

  1. Connor and Risa are sent to Happy Jack Harvest Camp. Describe what it is like, and explain why it is like this. P265-266 Harvest camps are all kept clean and the all well kept. All harvest camps are in a beautiful area. There are many pastel colours, with not much red. It is like this to keep the unwinds calm and to cover the terror that is what is going to happen to them.
  2. What is the exact percentage of the Unwind that you have to keep alive? Why is it not 100%, as Risa believes? P269 They have to keep 99.44%, because of the features that are no longer useful to anyone to this day.
  3. What do the unwinds call the place where unwinding occurs? P271 They call the place where unwinding occurs The Chop Shop with a red carpet leading to it.
  4. Lev too is at Happy Jack but as a tithe. Why is this?  Because this is part of his plan along with Blaine and Mai. They are planning to be clapper to blow up the camp.
  5. On p278 Connor and Roland finally, have the fight that's been brewing between them. What does each character realise during this? Roland realises that he can't kill someone even though he thought he could. Connor found out what his answer is to the question that they were talking about "Would you rather die or be unwound?"
  6. P284 - What group has Lev joined, who recruited him, and when will they follow out their plan?  Lev got recruited by Cleaver who was beaten to death, he taught Roland how to fly the helicopter to go to the harvest camp to blow it up.
  7. Roland is called for unwinding on p286. Why is this?  Because his blood type is rare which is AB negative and is highly needed. This is why they are unwinding him as soon as they can.
  8. Chapter 61 is arguably the most confronting chapter in the book. Here we have Roland's first-person narrative of being unwound. Do you think this chapter is necessary? Why do you think Shusterman chose to have Roland's experience detailed? Do his memories alter how you view him?  Yes, because you can read what Roland feels and the author up until this chapter doesn't go into detail on how unwinding works.
  9. Why does Lev decide not to clap? P310 Lev decided not to clap because he can't bring himself to do it and he saw Connor who was still alive and chose not to.

10 Worst Countries For Child Soldiers

04/01/19, Monday

Child soldiers are children who are used for any military purpose. My map is showing countries that have the worst case for child soldiers.
Why are children used in War and how does this take away their Human Rights and Freedom?
Thousands of children are used in war and this takes away their human rights and freedom. The worst countries for child soldiers are Somalia, Sudan and Syria. The children working as soldiers get injured and killed when at war. They use children as soldiers because they are cheap and easy to manipulate into conflicts. Some join because of poverty or to gain protection. Military organizations are viewed as a safe and secure group of comrades. They often work as soldiers for revenge to an organisation for killing their family. After working for the military they are often left without a family. There are many children that still work as soldiers for the military. The human rights that are taken away are the right to life, the right to a fair and free world and the right to rest or play.
