Aim:I need to figure out/research traditional ways of preserving food that have been used in New Zealand.

Method:
Step 1:I need to ready all my equipments.
Step 2:Prepare my blog.
Step 3:Research how traditional ways of preserving food that have been used in new zealand.
Step 4:When done show Miss Aitken my research.

My reasearch:
The hangi or earth oven is a traditional Maori method of cooking,It is especially sited for preparing food for large numbers of people.Hot rocks and water is used to craete the steam in a shallown pit dug into the earth. The food is layered on top of the rock and covered with leaves, then the soil is then placed to trap the steam for a few hours. The exact time depends on the lsize of the hangi.

Mara kai is a traditional  fermentation process for food such as crayfish and fish, after european arrival,it was also used for corn. The kai is placed in a flax basket and steeped in very slow running water for days or weeks until the inner flesh settles to the bottom of the kete.

Food could be dried in embers or,in the geothermal rotorua area, spread on hot rocks.Foods commonly dried included kumara,,shellfish and fish.Shellfish were threaded onto long lengths of twisted flax and hung from lines or platforms to dry in the sun and wind.Meat, fruit and seeds are also dried.

Fatty birds such as muttonbirds were preseved by their own fat. After cooking, the hot fat was set aside. The meat was packed into gourds, and the fat poured in to set around it.Southern tribes inflated bull kelp to make storage containers for muttonbirds.

Vacuum packing:Using a vacuum packing for storing foods in a vacuum packing or a jar.
Curing/Salting:draws out moisture in meat through a process called osmosis. The meat is cured with salt or sugar or both.
Sugaring:use to preserve foods.
Smoking:used by exposing meat to smoke off of materials such as wood.
Pickling:pickiling is a method of preserving food in an edible anti-microbial liquid.Typical pickling agents include brine, vinegar, alcohol and vegetable oil, especially olive oil but also many other oils.
canning and bottling:canning involves cooking food, sealing it in sterile cans or jars, and boiling the containers to kill or weaken any remaining bacteria as a form of sterilization.

4.The research is easy and fun because i get to figure out how to preserve foods.
5.It's fun doing the research especially to know how to preserve food so you can save and maintain foods.

5.I find the acrostic poem hard because of the words and the easy part is the ending because i found the ideas i need for writing the ending.

1.Our project is about saving kiwis from being extinct.
2.There's a cheese in the back and a paper clip and if the rat eats the cheese the paper clip will be triggered and the front of the bottle will close the rat will be trapped.
3.It will sustain the kiwis from being extinct catching the rats will make the kiwis live because rats eat  their foods so if we catch the rats it won't be able to eat their food and ruin their habitat and they eat their eggs.

21/09/17

If we don't have trees,The animals can't eat and they don't have something to live on that will cause them to be extinct because of shortage of their food our oxygen won't be clean as it is without trees and the climate change will appear mostly because of the more carbon dioxide being release onto the atmosphere and the lost of farm lands and forests the trees clean our air to let us breath in clean oxygen they provide us wood but if we cut down one tree we have to plant another one to add up in the trees.

To reduce the deforestation we can cut the old trees not the new trees and if we cut a tree we have to plant another one,we can always recycle the papers we used to make it to other things and we have to use our paper wisely,We can plant trees too to help grow more trees we need to save the trees because not only us who need it the animals need it too it can help us too get clean oxygens adn the animasl need it for them to live on and their food.

1.Palm oil is oil made of mesocarp of the fruit on palm oils.
2.Palm oil is used for almost everything including ice creams and snacks.
3.It's obtained on african oil palm tree.
4.The orangutansand other animals can be extinct if we keep getting palm oils because they have nothing to eat and they don't have something to live on that's why they can die.

The trunk of a tree is protected by an outside layer of bark.

5. I believe that sustainability is related to science because there is sustainability in biology because you need constant amounts of cells to keep up how you look and feel.

our forest is endangered with all the animals being captured and the trees being cut down our forest is getting destroyed when there are no trees the animals can't eat

1.fairy terns.
2.There habitat is lost and they are predation by rats, cats, dogs. The dogs can eat eggs and chase or kill chicks while people in motorbikes, car can crush eggs, nests can fail if parents are disturbed from incubating the egg and stormy weather can caused the adult fairy terns abandon their nest and high tides can wash up there nests.
3.There are about 40 left in new zealand.
4.To save them we have to not ruin their habitat, don't kill or catch them if your with your dog or cat and you see one of the fairy terns don't let your pet near it,if there's fairy terns in the area create a sign to warn them to not catch the fairy terns in that area or have a sign that says keep dogs, cats away from where the fairy terns are nesting.
