SOST Write That Essay

Historians argue that understanding the causes of significant events are much more important than just remembering dates, facts and figures about things in the past. The Treaty of Waitangi was signed in 1840, creating an agreement between the Maori and the British. The Treaty of Waitangi was needed to maintain peace and construct laws between the Maori and British in New Zealand. Despite the treaty happening in the 1840s, it remains important in Aotearoa.
In the 1830s in New Zealand, a lot of lawless behaviour was happening in Kororareka also known as Russell Bay due to the lack of law and rules. Before the treaty was established there were a lot of diseases, prostitution and fights between the whalers, since there were no rules preventing them. The Maori are taking all of the damage caused by the whalers who arrived in Kororareka. The treaty was needed to prevent all of the lawlessness and to create trade laws between both parties.
The missionaries were trying to help the Maori protect their rights. This is important to building the treaty because it gives the Maori more reasons to sign the treaty, it also builds trust between the two parties. Some of the things they did to gain the trust of the Maori are they taught them how to read and write Te Reo, they shared farming techniques and introduced new technology to them and the missionaries bought land from the Maori as trustees. When the trade was made, it helped the missionaries and Maori strengthen their friendship and it helps the Maori establish their rights, therefore, giving the Maori sign the treaty easily.
Maori tribes were forced to trade crops and flax for muskets in order to fight back, the Maori used the Muskets to either fight other Maori tribes or get revenge and over 20,000 people were killed because of the musket wars. In this paragraph, I’m trying to prove that when the muskets were introduced, wars became more often between the Maori. After the muskets were introduced the land boundaries in New Zealand changed. A balance of power was created between the tribes when they got access to muskets. The Musket Wars caused more violence and deaths since there were no laws to restrain the trading of muskets. The treaty helped this situation by providing laws around the trading if muskets.
Was there anything in place before the Treaty of Waitangi? Interestingly, there was something place called the Declaration of Independence. It was signed on October 28, 1835, in the home of James Busby. With the Declaration, the Maori could trade in legal terms since they have a flag and they could express their Rangatiratanga, it made the Maori an independent country under the authority if United Tribes of New Zealand. After the Declaration was signed, a meeting was supposed to take place but the Maori didn’t attend the meeting. No laws and rules were created to protect the Maori as agreed to in the Declaration. The graph shows us that the population of the Maori people is slowly declining while the Europeans are slowly growing throughout the years.
2. Why do you think the numbers of Maori change?
It may be caused by strong earthquakes and wars. It is also very hard to survive because of the tribes fighting each other.
3. Why do you think the numbers of Europeans change?
I think it's because of their economy. Europeans were able to trade a lot with people in another country this can be the cause of their growing population more material and food made them survive longer.

As Coco woke up from his sleep, he stood up from his bed and felt that the ground was kinda weird. He looked around and saw that the ground was made out of some kind of chocolate, he looked outside and saw the vibrant blue ocean was no longer there instead brown water and brown waves were splashing around. He thought to himself what was happening, was he dreaming? he pinched himself to make sure that this is all a dream. He felt pain and he blinked but he was still in the weird world. He stepped outside of the house and felt the wind hit his face, the wind had the smell of sweetness, like chocolate. There were barely any people here, I stepped closer to the ocean and dipped by hand into it. It felt like a thick cream and smells like chocolate, I stuck my tongue out and tasted some of it,
it is chocolate! Amazing, I walked forward the chocolate getting deeper before I knew it I was hit by a big wave. I stumbled and fell into the thick waves of chocolate, after that I saw black.
Coco opened his eyes, the sunlight blinding him, he stood up and looked around "Where am I?" Coco mumbled to himself. It seemed like he is still in the chocolate world but this time he was floating in the ocean on a surfboard. Soon, he noticed the grey fin sticking out of the water, his heart started to pound faster, he stayed still trying not to attract the attention of the lurking predator. All of a sudden the shark popped out of the water "Didn't think I'd notice you." said the shark, Coco was beyond terrified, he stumbled in shock
"H-how?" Coco stuttered "Oh, you're not from around here." said the shark smirking "I could help you but..." the shark continued "But what?" replied Coco "Promise me something, kid." said the shark whispering "You'd come surf with me, every day." stated the shark "Yeah, sure." answered Coco. Coco grabbed his fin and the shark started to swim towards land, they arrived at the land “See you tomorrow, kid.” said the shark as he swam away, Coco waved his hand goodbye.
He went inside the house and laid down the bed, he sighed as his eyes started to close a girl appeared out of nowhere “Hey, I saw you talking to the shark.” said the girl as she sat down the bed next to Coco “Yeah, what about it?” asked Coco “You’re not from here, want to go back to your world?” The girl stated “Yeah!” Coco replied instantly “I can transport you back but how about your friend?” asked the girl “I’ll um talk to him about it.” said Coco the girl nodded and stood up “See you tomorrow then.” the girl said as she went outside the house, Coco closed his eyes and fell asleep.
The next morning Coco ran towards the ocean with the surfboard “Hey um shark, I can’t surf with you anymore.” said Coco “Why?” asked the shark “Well, I have to go back to my world.” he replied “But that’s no fun, don’t you like it here?” “It’s fun here but I have family and friends back at my world, just like you, I value my surroundings and my habitat. ” explained Coco “Oh okay, um I guess this is goodbye then, I enjoyed my time with you.” The shark said before he swimming away but this time he swam faster, he disappeared in the horizon.
The next morning Coco ran towards the ocean with the surfboard “Hey um shark, I can’t surf with you anymore.” said Coco “Why?” asked the shark “Well, I have to go back to my world.” he replied “But that’s no fun, don’t you like it here?” “It’s fun here but I have family and friends back at my world, just like you, I value my surroundings and my habitat. ” explained Coco “Oh okay, um I guess this is goodbye then, I enjoyed my time with you.” The shark said before he swimming away but this time he swam faster, he disappeared in the horizon.
Coco looked at the ocean one more time before he walked towards the girl “I’m ready.” the girl smiled as she hands him chocolate shaped shark he looked at the girl sadly “Thank you.” Coco smiled as he took a bite of the chocolate, he only saw black. He woke up frantically seeing the room he sighed in relief, he looked at the clock it’s the same day only hours have passed since he left, weird he felt as if days have passed, he smiled standing up and going downstairs to eat breakfast, I guess.

Tangaroa is the Maori god of the sea. Interestingly, there are different gods in different cultures but they also have the same ideas, the idea that gods rule different things. For Ancient roman, we have Neptune, for Ancient Greek, we have Poseidon and for Hindu, we have Varuna.
