Tricolon/tripartite

What is it?
   The Tricolon is a term that includes three parallel words, phrases that comes quick and straight with no breaks.

Why is it used/What is its effect?
    It is used to give a greater sense of completeness, and wholeness. It also makes you highlight your point.

3 examples (at least one made by you)
  Barack Obama speaks in Memorial Service for Nelson Mandela:
    And when the night grows dark, when injustice weighs heavy on our hearts, when our best-laid plans seem beyond our reach, let us think of Madiba and the words that brought him comfort within the four walls of his cell …”

The Wizard in The wizard of oz.
  “You are talking to a man who has laughed in the face of death, sneered at doom, and chuckled at catastrophe.”

Antithesis

What is it?
  Antithesis means "opposite" is used as a rhetorical, where two opposites are placed together in a sentence to get a contrast effect.

Why is it used/What is its effect?
 It's used to point out the contrasts. The structures of the phrases are similar in order to draw attention from the readers.

3 examples (at least one made by you)

  • Give every man thy ear, but few thy voice.
  • You are easy on the eyes, but hard on the heart.

Juxtaposition: When two opposite ideas are beside each other.
